About Stop Making Sense
The Stop Making Sense festival – or SMS for short is one of Europe’s biggest open-air Dance festivals. It takes place in Thuringa near Sallburg-Ebersdorf on the Bavarian border. It has now been running since 1997 when it started off as a party for just 2,500 wide-eyed folk, expanding over the years to accommodate some 35,000 festival heads for a long weekend in August.
If it’s Dance music that makes your heart beat faster then you won’t be disappointed at the SMS festival. There are tons of different acts from right across the Electronic music spectrum, featuring everyone from the classic DJs and acts that have pioneered the scene, through to the newer faces with their beat-centric creations and strange takes on the style. However there is a distinct lean towards the more European side of the genre than the American slash UK branch of the art.
The SMS festival takes place over a huge site with everything you could possibly want for the weekend including a beach and a special quiet camping area, which is essential for those of us who’re getting on a bit and need at least a bit of beauty sleep in between party hours. With tons of stages, tents and even a special SMS boat party this is one festival you’ll be glad to remember.
