Glastonbury Festival of the Contemporary Performing Arts is without question the jewel in the UK's Summer events calendar, with a thousand shining facets each reflecting a different light of the nation's artistic culture in one glorious whole. Running for a glorious long weekend in late June on Michael Eavis's farm in Somerset, overlooked by the majestic Glastonbury Tor - some even say that this mystical site was once touched by King Arthur.
If it's star power you're after then you can't go wrong with Glastonbury, which has seen some of the biggest names on the planet descend onto its Pyramid stage, but in truth this is an event that's certainly not all about the stellar acts, as there's a massive blend of sound right across the site. With 175,000 guests to entertain, you can find just about any kind of musical vibration on the sonic spectrum tucked away somewhere here - whether you decide plan out every step or just see what takes your fancy in the moment.
In addition to the music there's a whole other world that crops up around the Glastonbury site, giving you access to art, performance and all kinds of weird and wonderful sights and sounds, ranging from the legendary stone circle where wide-eyed folk catch moonbeams with their whimsy, through to the debauched excesses of Shangri La. The one thing we can't put into words is the vibe of this event, which is said to be like no other - a coming together of minds, spirits and souls in one glorious outpouring of human emotion and togetherness – and for many it's this undefinable quantity that makes the event sell out in mere moments every year.
