The Great Escape has revealed the first 100 artists for 2014.

One of the many acts announced for this year’s Great Escape is Kelis, set to perform at the Brighton Dome on Saturday night. Kelis will be bringing brand new music from her upcoming album ‘Food’ (expected for release in May), supported by BRIT Award nominee and returning artist Ella Eyre.

Set to once again kick off the UK festival season, TGE is taking place across the weekend of 8-10 May, spanning over a huge 35 venues across the city of Brighton. The festival is well known for showcasing some of best emerging acts, an exciting opportunity predicted to bring over 18,000 music lovers to the city.

Festival Director, Kat Morris has said: “[…]we aim to produce a line-up which shows a true cross section of emerging artists, locally and internationally[…]” and this years festival is set to do just that with artists representing over 25 countries.

As well as the announcement of home-grown acts such as Royal Blood is the first release of international artists from the partnership with Music Finland. The announcement confirmed Jaakko Eino Kalevi, Satellite Stories, Sin Cos Tan and The Scenes will all be heading to the south coast of England this May.

Also lined up for 2014 are hypnotic beat makers Jungle; self-titled “Steak and Kidney Pop” star Chlӧe Howl and Charli Xcx. The “3 boys with a story to tell”, Blaenavon will join this year’s Great Escape alongside fellow story-teller from Melbourne, Courtney Barnett; Liverpudlian quartet Circa Waves; new surf grunge kids Dune Rats and London six-piece Fat White Family.

In the nature of lending a helping hand to newcomers, The Great Escape convention will take place alongside the festival featuring insightful industry talks, panel debates, networking sessions and interviews for music fans and professionals. This year will feature a strand focusing specifically on Maximising Music Rights, with Brighton & Hove MP Mike Weatherley confirmed as a speaker.

TGE is a great platform for artists looking to start out, having previously helped hugely successful names such as The XX and Crystal Castles. Artists wishing to be considered for the festival can still apply now but registration ends at the end of January 2014. Registration can be found at the TGE website here.

Early Bird tickets are still available from only £45.00 for three-day access to the festival. Tickets can be purchased online or in person at Resident records in Brighton.
